I was reading a post by Ren Powell about her fight with cancer and her mindset that she didn't want to be "ambushed" by bad news so she considers the possibility of bad news and the contingent nature of good news.

Anxiety about a specific event or outcome, as you describe it, is a defense mechanism against such an ambush.

She can't control the outcome, but she can mount a preemptive strike against a possible bad reaction.

Perhaps another hack for dealing with specific anxiety is that it is a survival trait. I hope you felt great after the interview!

Thank you for this. I love that you can dance with your anxiety and that it doesn't trip you up. This week I posted about my first significant anxiety attacks. They are so vivid in my memory. I sometimes can't believe I survived them.
